KPN, Rabobank launch NFC SIM based mobile payments service

Rabobank and KPN have launched their NFC payments service for the broader market, after a test introduction earlier this year. Any of the bank’s account holders can now use the NFC payment service if they have a suitable Android smartphone and KPN Sim.

The new generation of KPN Sim has a Gemalto Secure Element for a protected copy of the customer’s payment card. The SE communicates with the rest of the phone to support the payments service. KPN provides the Sim cards since the start of this year, also at its brands Telfort, Simyo and Yes Telecom. Existing customers can request one.

Rabobank also offers its Rabo Wallet app for storing other payment and loyalty cards. The app can also show discounts and promotions and register parking, with more features to be added in future.
